WSOPE came to a close recently in France. All was quiet until the biggest pot of the tournament was played between Fox and Jake Cody. A preflop war ensued and finally the cards were turned over: Cody’s JJ against Fox’s TT for 140 big blinds. Fox was probably happy to see the 876 that gave him additional outs, and he put them to good use. A 9 fell on the turn to give Fox a straight, which meant that Cody was drawing to the final two tens in the deck. Neither of the tens came, and this saw Cody sent to the rail in a disappointing 7th place.

Shawn “buck21” Buchanan was the next to bust, losing an all-in pot to Dermot Blain. Blain went no further than 5th place, though, and then Brian Roberts was the next bust in 4th. They might be disappointed but with their winnings, they probably won’t bother to clear their Roulette bonus anymore.
The final three consisted of Fox, Moorman, and Moritz “catenaccio” Kranich, all great players. Kranich would not see 2-handed play, however, after he shoved all-in with 54 suited and got called by Fox’s 99. Kranich couldn’t suck out and was eliminated in 3rd place.

Fox had a 2 to 1 chip advantage over Moorman when heads-up play began. He held this lead up until the final hand in which he got it in with AT against Moorman’s A7. Fox held on against Moorman and was the winner of the bracelet!

The legality of American poker online was unclear. But on September 29, 2006, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) was passed. However, on October 2, 2006 PartyGaming, PartyPoker's parent company announced that it would suspend all US operations.

Not all Internet rooms left American poker online. Two notable sites were PokerStars and Full Tilt. Soon after the UIGEA was passed, PokerStars released a statement to their player base. They said that they didn't believe that the law affected them and that they were committed to their customers.

It has been a debate for the longest time about whether or not poker is game of skill or a game of chance. PartyPoker.com apparently decided it was a gambling game and abandoned the US market. PokerStars.com took the stance that poker was a game of skill, and therefore they could ignore the law.

The result is that PokerStars is now the top online poker room in the world with many players making a poker deposit every day.
